Fine Jewelry

The most expensive and elaborate pieces of jewelry are known as fine jewelry.  It is common for these pieces to be made from gold or silver and contain many precious stones like diamonds, rubies and even opals and pearls.  This type of jewelry is typically expensive and is great for gifts for the most important occasions. Earrings, necklaces, bracelets and rings can all be considered fine jewelry and it can be purchased at most jeweler locations.  You can tell this type of jewelry by its exquisite make an appearance.

Fine jewelry dates back to ancient Egypt where they used gold to make the most elaborate pieces of the time. Gold was easy to use for jewelry because it didn’t tarnish and it was malleable, it was also rare so it could be used as a symbol of wealth and class.  Bracelets, pendants, necklaces, rings, armlets, and earrings made of gold have all been found at archeological sites.  Romans also used 18 and 24 carat cold to craft large necklaces, crafts and earrings.  They also began to compliment these pieces with shells and stones that were found in the region.  Gems, like diamonds, rubies, and pearls also began to be used in the making of jewelry at this time.  As the popularity of gold, silver and diamonds grew each culture adapted their own styles of jewelry. 

Historically fine jewelry has always been a symbol of class and status.  Though times have changed that theme has stayed the same for the most part.  Modernly, in the United States, most people have access to fine jewelry.  However, because of its rather large price tag not everyone can afford it.  It is very common to see celebrities walk the carpet with large pieces of elaborate diamond jewelry.  Most people only purchase this type of jewelry for extremely expensive occasions.
